Sanitary exchangers chosen by product and duty

A dairy heat exchanger is chosen by what runs through it. Skim and whole milk behave close to water, so a gasketed plate frame carries the regeneration, heating and cooling sections in one compact pack. Cream above about 30 percent fat and ice cream mix thicken sharply as they cool and need the wider channels of a wide-gap plate. Once yogurt has been broken, or fruit and pieces are in the stream, the product moves to tube-in-tube so it is neither sheared nor plugged.

Every unit we supply is new, with a 316L product side, tri-clamp connections and a drainable layout finished to 32 Ra, or 20 Ra when your audit asks for it. Where the inspector expects the 3-A symbol, plate frames are built to the 3-A 11 series and tubular units to the 12 series. A utility shell running above 15 psig carries ASME Section VIII.

We also supply new replacement plates, gaskets and tube bundles for frames and shells already running in your plant.

From product sheet to construction

Many quote requests arrive with a flow rate and two temperatures and little else. The construction depends on more than that: the fat and solids, whether the stream carries fines, pulp or pieces, and whether the same frame must also regenerate. A plate pack sized for skim will lose flow and foul early on 40 percent cream, and a tight plate channel will tear a broken yogurt curd that a corrugated tube carries through intact.

Our Sizing & Selection pages take those decisions in the order an application engineer works them: match the product, size the duty against your utility and its approach, then settle whether raw and pasteurized milk need a double wall between them. Send a request with those answers and we can come back with a priced construction instead of a list of questions.

Replacing a plate pack or tube bundle starts from the nameplate. Plate count, channel gap, pass arrangement and connection size are usually enough for us to quote a new equivalent pack or a complete new unit.
